It has been observed that a customer named ‘Priti Anand’ is placing fake orders from an online marketplace in India.
The order will generally have the a Billing Address like : Police Enclave, Vibhuti Khand, Gomtinagar Lucknow and a Shipping Address: Moti Bagh, New Delhi
When this customer places the order and gets the product. Then, the customer cancels the order after receiving the products saying that the product is defective, so they should get a refund and replacement both.
However there is a loophole in the marketplace software such that, as soon as the customer asks for a refund. The seller of the product will give a refund to the customer. And then ships a replacement product as well. (which should not be allowed). The customer should be given only 1 option either a refund or a replacement.
From the seller perspective he has given a refund to the order and 2 products are shipped to the same customer. The seller does not get any products returned to him as well, so that he can validate what is going on here ?
From the customer perspective only 2 things are possible.
1.) The product is actually defective. So if a refund is given, the customer should not have also asked for a replacement. And tried to buy it from another shop online or offline.
2.) The product is not defective, and the customer is exploiting the loophole in the software to get products for free online.
Why is the order fake?
Attached is the screenshot where the seller is asking the customer to send a video or picture of the product not working. But the customer does not respond.

Also when the seller tries to call on the customer’s phone number. They canceled his call also.
And on top of that, the marketplace software has marked this issue as “Resolved”, after the customer gets 2 products and the money back.
Also please note that the customer purposefully uses a police address in the Billing address to scare and intimidate the seller. So that they should not try to report this incident to anyone else.
I think the online marketplace software needs to add more stringent validations for identifying fake customers like ‘Priti Anand’ for exploiting the loop holes in ecommerce.
