In this clip, the teacher of CMS, Gomtinagar, Lucknow is narrating a story from the book. And when the story completes, she tries to summarize it with “Parent Make Mistakes”
Teacher’s Question: Why you listen to your parents?
Teacher’s Accepted Answer: Because they Love you
Please note that, One girl is saying, they protect us. And she ignores this thought. Do we all really think that we listen to our parents or in general to anyone because they love you ?
Because first of all ‘Love’ is the most misused and misinterpreted word. It means different things to different people in different ways. When I was a kid I saw a movie with a dialogue. “Everything is fair in love and war”. So it was not clear to me that Love is always a positive word, it can actually mean revenge or something bad also.
Second thing is parents and guardians or two words that you will find in most of the application forms when you are applying to any Job or service. And these words are sometimes written like this
“Please mention Parents/Guardians name:”: ___________
What does this mean?
This means that every child will have a parent or guardian for sure. However there is a / in between. Which means, they are synonyms for naming someone who has taken care of you.
A parent can be called as a parent if and only if he/she acts as a guardian also. And guardian means someone who protects you. And apart from protecting he/she could do other things also. Like helping them with their daily activities like eating, sleeping etc. If he/she performs these additional duties, then he is a parent, otherwise he is a guardian.
Also I think more than ‘Love’, the teacher should have used the word “Trust”. Because the child can be comfortable with someone if they trust them. And what she should have taught them is that their parents should be trustworthy like a partner.
Further in this audio clip. There is one more question raised below:-
Teacher’s Question: Do parents make mistakes ?
Teacher’s Accepted Answer: Elders, Father and Mothers, Parents, Teachers also make mistakes. So You should use your own brain.
Slight Correction, the statement should have been.
“Making mistakes is Human”. And mistake is a sign of being human, so that includes everyone. There is no need to highlight that “Elderly, Father, Mothers and Parents are the ones making mistakes”
Because in a class of 60 students, Some special kid will try to infer this statement mathematically as below:-
– Parent make mistakes
That Means
– Non-Parent cannot make a mistake.
That Means
Anyone who is not a parent, like a friend, or someone who makes them happy cannot make a mistake. So we should trust anyone and everyone except parents.
Also a 6 year old does not have enough intelligence to judge what is right or wrong for them. We understand that every child’s situation is different. But teachers must refrain from making vulgar(generalizing something negative) statements repeatedly that “Parents make mistakes”. As this will program the kids brain negatively and they will have trust issues. Leading to aggressive behaviors early in their childhood.
With age, they will form an opinion by themselves if their parents or anyone in general is making mistakes or not.
