In this phone call, Ex. Railway Govt. Officer Mr. T.K. Mishra, from Gorakhpur, U.P. is “gas lighting” his relative on education and its importance according to him.
He is being taught that homeschool/online is of no use. And kids should be sent to randomly any school mandatorily for the reasons below:-
1:) School is for outing. House maid(Dayi) sends their kids to school, so if you don’t send your kids then your status is below that of a peon or house maid.
2.) High fees are perfectly fine. And you should not raise your voice against this injustice, by any other person or Institution. You should willingly fall victim to cheats and thugs. Do not use your brain, as you are not smart or intelligent enough to decide for yourself.
3.) Not only me, but many people will join me and will hit you, like a bird hits their prey for food. So you have to act and decide based on false pride and vanity to impress relatives.
4.) You will go into depression, if you do not listen to me
5.) Do not spend money on nutritious food and good health, but spend on insanely expensive books and tuition fees to match western culture.
6.) By English he means “Western thoughts”. Because he himself cannot speak and understand english. So he wants to actually say that, Hindi is not important, make your kids forget hindi and indian culture and tradition completely. Only teach “Western thoughts”.
So to summarise, this phone call was made to gas light the receiver of the phone call. So he willingly makes a decision to stop home-schooling his kids due to the above reasons.
Please note that, Mr. T.K. Mishra, has studied till class 12 only by using “Hook and crook”, and then he failed all the exams in his B.A. graduation and could not study further. He got the govt. job by paying bribery.
So a person who has himself not completed education and mocked and ridiculed his teachers and elders in his entire life, is giving a lecture about good education. But, the actual truth is that due to an inferiority complex, Mr. T.K. Mishra has immense jealousy, and cannot bear the success of his younger relatives and kids. So he constantly gas lights him on the phone every now and then.
Education system consists of 2 parts:-
1. Basic Education
2. Advanced Education
For example, learning A to Z is basic education. And formation of letters and sentences is higher education.
Now, we should never try to change the basic letters from A to Z. But we can change words and sentences in our education courses.
In other words “Basic education” should never be tried to change. But it is ok to change the “Advanced knowledge” due to changes in technology, society and so on with time. Now changing the advanced knowledge, is what requires “Unlearning”, And it evolves with the students passion for any particular subject.
But unlearning cannot be applied to basic education (core education).
Mr T.K. Mishra and his recommendations for schools are because he is confused with the word “Unlearning”. Today, schools like CMS Lucknow, have done blunder by modifying the basic education from Montessori onwards only. Even though we enrolled in the ICSE curriculum. The teachers did not teach the kids ICSE books or basic education, but forced parents to buy expensive Alfa books, which were highly advanced and expensive. And even after 4 years the students could not speak, read or write letters or sentences.
The school saw parents as business customers to charge high fees, stationery and so on. And imparting knowledge was not the agenda. The teachers said, if your kids cannot read and write, enroll them in an additional private tuition. The sad reality is that kids go to school at 7 am in the morning, come back home at 2 pm, then go to tuition at 4 pm and come back at 8 pm.
In other words the kids are at home to only sleep and eat. The whole day they are either in school or tuition. And this applies to students from Mont. to 12.
We also got phone calls from the school that our kid has met with an accident and injury on a day to day basis.
Also the kids had to either be hospitalized or taken to a doctor every few months for sickness, disease due to constant stress. This is because as a parent we are unable to monitor the health of the kids, if they stay away from home for several hours.
There is a saying “You cannot use the same yardstick to measure everything”. So every kid is unique and his situation, needs and desires are different. Hence we decided to homeschool kids online. And the kids have already taken admission in a govt. approved school where the mode of teaching is Online. But Mr. T.K. Mishra, thinks that online education is not an education because of the reasons listed above.
This blog is written to document and inform the younger generation on how to handle calls from such people with kindness and respect and still act from the learnings of your education and beliefs.
